In Singapore, our customer CYC International is awarded the prize for innovation thanks to the underwater ROV Mini Bull.
The Workplace Safety & Health Awards, held every year in Singapore since 2007, award companies and organizations that invest in the implementation of technologies, good practices and management systems to guarantee and improve the health and safety of their employees.
This year our customer CYC International Pte Ltd has won the prize for innovation, adopting the "Mini Bull", a submersible robot developed by Gerotto Federico S.r.l. for cleaning cooling towers basins and other water tanks, inside industrial plants.
In 2016, CYC had already won the prize thanks to "Melissa", the Tank Cleaner robot for cleaning storage tanks in refineries.
Both machines are remote controlled and, thanks to the aspiration, remove debris and sludge settled on the bottom of the tanks. In this way, it is no longer necessary for operators to enter explosion-risk areas and confined spaces.
In the case of the underwater ROV, that CYC called "Olivia", it is also possible to clean the basin during the normal operation of the plant, because it is not necessary to empty the water tanks: the robot scrapes the debris thanks to its rotating brush and pumps them out.
The advantages of these applications are not only related to safety, but also to lower maintenance costs: the work is carried out quicker, requires less human labour and doesn't need shutdown times.
The goals achieved by CYC with Gerotto's robots are an example of how the no-man-entry technology is gradually spreading around the world, together with the idea that the safety of workers is a fundamental value, which can and must go hand in hand with the economic interests of the companies.
